Insinuating silently - Architecture sprouts from the landscape.

The new Sports and Recreational Park in Bressanone is the result of a design competition aimed at the construction of a new ice rink, a tennis club and other sports facilities. The intervention proposes a punctual work on the landscape: the leitmotif and source of inspiration for the project.

The first objective was to conduct an urban mending operation. Beyond the river, which the intervention area overlooks, there are some pre-existing sports facilities, as well as schools and homes. Through the construction of a bridge and the removal of some obstacles, the physical and visual dialogue between the two banks becomes possible, creating a single park. A network of cycle and pedestrian paths connects this new green lung to the city, allowing it to become an integral part of it.

The river and the mountain are the pivots of the visual axis that the project aims to protect by limiting the height of the new buildings that are thus integrated into the landscape.

The intervention follows the lines of the slope by digging the latter and inserting the architecture inside, subsequently covered with the excavated soil to create practicable green roofs. In this way the built environment echoes the shapes of the landscape and interacts with it following its topography. What emerges are only the frames of the volumes which establish a relationship of interaction between the outside and the inside thanks to their generous glazed surfaces: in this way the landscape permeates the heart of the architecture and at the same time the sports activities are perceived by the visitors of the park. The materials also help to weld the bond with the territory: in addition to concrete, in fact, the structures include the use of local porphyry and dolomitic stone, which characterize the city of Bressanone.

The volumes open around a large permeable green space that can be walked on thanks to a series of colored porphyry tongues that emerge from the lawn. An element of centrality and connection also with the sports area across the river, this bucolic environment is conceived by choosing trees and flowers capable of animating the park in rotation at any time of the year with their colors and perfumes. A place that becomes both an "active" landscape for the presence of sporting activities, and a "contemplative" landscape in which the rest of the community can walk, make a break, enjoy the greenery and the view of the mountain and the river.
