Folding was derived as a contemporary structural method but became instrumental to the visual and functional experience of the visitor: ramps, escalators and oblique planes unfold a choreography of fluid spatial sequences incorporating a dialogue between the new and the old.

west wing ruin: the empty shell that will house the new extension sits on top of two basement storeys.

cross vaulted structure: the new extension was 'bred' as a contemporary sibling of the existing Gothic basements below.

art approach vs castle approach: when approached from the main circulation loop, the pleated insertion produces a calm scenographic staging of the art works. Seen from the other direction, the insertion appears as a series of frames.

In between spaces: The glazed shorter faces that form the triangular gaps with the old surrounding castle walls enable the visitor to see the relationship between old and new as well as between interior and exterior above and below.
